Nourishing my creative side today: POETRY TIME

she had sand in her hair,

and the sea was her heart

so you gazed recklessly

at the summer she wore on her skin

it melted and stuck between your fingers

waiting for the next time you remember to

stop

and savor that temporary madness

Today I went for a 6 mile run even though I really didn’t want to and ended up SO GRATEFUL that i did. Being outside in the crisp air allows me to mull over thoughts and dreams; this is 100% ME time and I sometimes forget how important it can be.
I left you with a short but powerful piece of poetry I adore by Charles Bukowski. His writing is rough and dry, but also very real. Hopefully in his own jagged way...he will inspire you to live life  for yourself and breathe out the negative. DO NOT BE EATEN UP BY TRIVIALITIES
There is only one life. Only this day..so smile deep into your heart and be thankful for each breath.

***Recipe for a quick easy lunch below!!!!

Southwest Vegan/Vegetarian Veggie stuffed sweet potato
preheat oven to 400 degrees. poke a few holes in the sweet potato and you will know they are finished when a syrupy liquid starts to come out!
While the potatoes are cooking sauté onions in a medium pan over medium-low heat. use any type of oil of your choice, I prefer using coconut oil. Once the onions start softening add in some garlic, salt, and pepper to taste.
Add 1/2 of a zucchini cut into small cubes and let that cook for a few minutes until it softens. Second add in some black beans and
fully cooked tri colored quinoa
and a full cup of kale and spinach.
Let the mixture cook over low heat until fully soft and cooked through.
Once the potatoes have cooked through, cut lengthwise and add the vegetable mixture
top with 1/2 avocado and add salsa or hot sauce as desired!

now you have all your nutrients in one simple plate!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

When I initially began thinking about compiling a recipe/poem/inspirational life manual I was IMMEDIATELY daunted by the idea. The thought alone stressed me out because I know my own personal struggles with being consistent in my health and wellness codes. I have months where I feel more alert and motivated, and those are the months that subsequently result in me feeling better about myself physically. On the alternate end, I am totally 100% human and susceptible to the twists and turns of life, I skip workouts or fall into negative self talk. I decided that in order for me to create something that is raw and authentic to me and what I believe in, I needed to clarify that you do not need this book. You will hopefully benefit from it, and enjoy the little bits and pieces of my mind; I hope that this book makes you feel strong, and lets you know that we as humans are so much more united in our fears and excitement about life!...but you do not need to follow this book every day. If you forget a day, or skip a week, you don’t need to feel as if you have lost progress. In fact...that may have been the mental or physical rest your body required in order to make the next step forward! I can assure you that each one of these pages is riddled with emotion and true humanity. There will be laughter and tears betwixt each page...

so, no matter where you are or who you are, I invite you to follow along, savor each bite, and be grateful for each moment!

The Beginning!

Dearest friends,

I have felt myself yearning for a concrete type of place to land my next footprint in this life; I have been dabbling in different areas and wobbling around trying to find the correct spot to be. It’s an interesting thing, searching for purpose, but I have really come to realize that life isn’t going to just hand you the answers. You have to be broken and remade, and broken and remade, and THAT is the point! It is in those struggles and those times when we feel like nobody else in the world could possibly understand, that is when we find the magic in life! So, with that said, I have decided to embark on my own journey and start this blog. It is a virtual book that was made for me, and specifically for you. It is for men, women, children, adolescents, dreamers, fighters, addicts, rich, poor, the witty, the witless, romantics, and anyone else under the sun! It is a book about wellness, from the inside out, in both our body and our mind. Think of this as a day to day devotional for yourself. It is a quick read for each day of the year coupled with some simple yet nutritiously dense recipes for you to try.
